Winter Wedding Training - Sticking to it when the cold sets in!!
It’s been a long, hot summer and for the best of us it’s difficult to stay motivated when the outside temperature is above boiling point. But for many of us winter also poses a threat to our exercise regime. It’s easier (and cosier) at 6am to stay in bed rather than venture outdoors. It’s certainly easier (and not to mention more appealing) to sit in front of the fire with a glass of red or two rather than head out for a run. But these choices will not help you maintain a fitness level or keep those pesky kilos at bay.
Benefits of exercising in winter include:
1. You use more energy in winter. This means you burn more calories. This equates to looking great in those skinny leg jeans! Need we say more?
2. With winter comes illness. Regular exercise is one of the best ways to boost your immune system and reduce your risk of catching colds or other illnesses.
What should you remember when exercising in winter?
1. To warm up. Although important at any time a good warm up is essential in the cooler weather as the muscles and joints will take that little bit longer to get moving.
2. Stretch adequately. It’s easier to cramp or pull muscles in the colder months so take the time to stretch properly.
3. Stay hydrated. Sometimes we forget to drink because it’s cooler and we feel it’s not necessary when it’s cold. It is though so keep that water flowing.
4. Clothing is vital. Wear the correct clothing such as wet weather gear if raining or a warm under garment.
So remember that exercising during winter is as important as exercising during summer. Don’t make excuses if it’s cold or wet outside. Exercise outdoors is as possible as exercise in a gym. Both will leave you feeling invigorated, full of energy, wanting more and looking great when summer comes around again!
