Bells Functions on Barrack Street Jetty
Of late I have reviewed some some wonderful riverside wedding reception venues. Here is another to add to the list. The versatile Bells Functions is situated on the Barrack Street Jetty (first floor of the eastern pavilion) and is only a few minutes walk from the CBD.
With floor to ceiling windows, Bells Functions offers uninterrupted views of Perth city, Kings Park and South Perth. There is a large balcony that wraps around three sides of the venue. Guests can spill out onto the balcony to take in the city lights, watch the South Perth ferries berth and depart or be refreshed by the Fremantle Doctor on a hot summers night. The balcony is a major focal point and with the doors opened up there is a real sense of space inside the venue, enhanced by the high pitched ceiling and the light that floods in as the sun sinks west.
The contemporary interior is tastefully done in a subdued, almost minimalist way. There is no extravagance with the décor. Wooden window & door frames are complimented by exposed wooden beams and wood slats that curve along the contours of the elevated bridal table section. In contrast with the interior the balcony has an almost rustic feel with aged hardwood floorboards, a corrugated roof and a few comfy sofas that reminds one of sitting on the porch of a country homestead – with the added hustle and bustle of Barrack Street Jetty. Inside and out It is a great venue to enjoy some good food & wine.
Up to 200 people can be accommodated for a cocktail style function and up to 75 can be seated inside, plus a bridal table of 8. The cocktail menu starts at $37.50 per head and a sit down meal starts at $66.50. Beverage packages start at around the $30 mark for a 4 hour timeframe. The food is top notch – absolutely restaurant quality and certainly not your basic function centre fare. Guests won't leave disappointed with the quality or quantity of food.
I have performed at a few weddings and private functions at Bells and the service is efficient and friendly. Some venues can be guilty of being understaffed but not Bells. You won't have to chase the staff for a tasty morsel or situate yourself in a thoroughfare to make sure you are served the cocktail food. No-one goes without.
Now parking can be a problem. There are limited bays in the Barrack Street Jetty car park (and a tad pricey) and time restrictions apply along Riverside Drive. The Supreme Court Gardens do offer an alternative - some 300 metre walk from the venue.
