When Perthites plan a south west wedding, most tend to think first and foremost of the Margaret River region. The Bunbury region is often overloooked but offers some distinct advantages. The main advantage is Bunbury's proximity to Perth – now only an hour and 40 minutes drive thanks to the Mandurah bypass. Bunbury, like Margaret River, has wineries, a scenic coastline, fine dining and excellent accommodation. Being a larger regional centre however, it offers a wider variety of shopping and entertainment options. The one thing that Margaret River doesn't have is a world class 18 hole golf resort. Ten minutes drive north of Bunbury is just that - the stunning All Seasons Sanctuary Golf Resort.

Sanctuary Resort is set amongst 56 hectares of rolling green fairways, picturesque lakes and landscaped gardens and provides a relaxed and peaceful location for a wedding. Civil ceremonies can be held adjacent to the main lake and the reception can be held in one of the function rooms or in an enclosed marquee. After the ceremony is concluded, photographers do not need to travel anywhere else to take photographs. The ceremony, photography and reception can all be held in the one locale.

I recently performed at a wedding at the resort and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. What stood out more than anything for me was how friendly and accommodating the staff were. Nothing was too much trouble for them. At some venues the tension amongst function staff at wedding receptions is almost palpable. This is not the case at Sanctuary Resort. Staff are relaxed and amiable without compromising service efficiency. This did not go unnoticed by the guests who made many positive comments about the service. The food was also enjoyed by all present.

The wedding was held in the permanent enclosed marquee which is framed by the resort building on three sides and has glass doors facing west towards the putting greens and driving range. The doors can be opened when the weather permits to create an alfresco atmosphere, or closed if it is inclement. The marquee can accommodate up to 180 people for a sit down meal.

Wedding guests can enjoy a few drinks and not worry about having to drive thanks to the four star resort accommodation. There are 38 newly refurbished contemporary apartment style units and suites that overlook the golf course and the tropical poolside setting. The resort also has a bar and restaurant that serves decent fare.

Then there is, of course, the golf. The day after the wedding, guests can tackle the 18 hole course and perhaps enjoy an extended stay if they wish.

With an appealing choice of reception and ceremony locations, excellent on site accommodation, quality food and beverage packages and friendly staff, Sanctuary Resort is an enticing option for couples looking to have their wedding away from the hustle and bustle of Perth. It is also a very popular option with locals who tie the knot.

I look forward to my next function at Sanctuary Resort. I may even bring the clubs next time around!
